Scorchers Romp To 7-Wicket Victory

14 January 2017

Scorchers bowlers did an admirable job to restrict the Strikers to 6-120, before Heather Graham guided them home with an unbeaten knock of 39 from 30 balls.

Match in a tweet: Scorchers end the Strikers’ season with a convincing seven-wicket win at the WACA.

The score: Adelaide Strikers 6-120 (Edwards 31, Cleary 3-21) in 20 overs lost to Perth Scorchers 3-122 (Graham 39 no) in 18 overs by seven wickets.

The hero: Heather Graham continues to be the shining light for the Scorchers with the bat and the ball. The 22-year-old once again batted with great maturity to guide the Scorchers home with an unbeaten knock of 39 from 30 balls. Graham hit some beautiful drives and sweeps as she ate away at the target with some positive batting. Graham hit five boundaries in her innings to ensure the Scorchers stayed on track to secure a finals berth.

Heather Graham's Match Winning Knock

The support cast: Piepa Cleary was outstanding with her medium pacers on a rock-hard WACA pitch. Cleary trapped Tegan McPharlin (9) plumb in front in her first over, before returning to the crease later in the innings to remove Megan Schutt (3) and Bridget Patterson (14) to finish with impressive figures of 4-0-21-3.

Piepa Cleary's Double

The run-out: There have plenty of stunning run-outs in the WBBL|02 so far and the one inflicted by Chloe Piparo is right up there with the very best. Fielding at point, Piparo took a couple of steps to her right to grab the ball and then fired an accurate throw from side-on to run-out the well-set Charlotte Edwards for 31.

Piparo's Brilliant Run-Out

The consolation act: Charlotte Edwards has found some form in the past couple of games and the English veteran produced yet another polished innings for the Strikers. Edwards enjoyed the pace and bounce of the WACA pitch to top score with 31 from 25 balls. The right-hander timed the ball beautifully from the outset as she found the ropes on five occasions.  Unfortunately for the Strikers, Edwards' innings was cut short by a brilliant run-out.

The next stop: The Scorchers have 24 hours to recover before playing the Stars at home while the Strikers head to the Gabba to play the Heat on Friday.
