JL looks to the season ahead

22 November 2017

Perth Scorchers coach Justin Langer has refused to make predictions for his side going into the seventh edition of the KFC Big Bash League, but says a track-record of consistency has instilled a sense of confidence in the team for the campaign ahead.

The Scorchers are the BBL’s most successful Club, having qualified for five Championship deciders, hosted four at #TheFurnace and won three.

However, the reigning champions also face a host of injury and Australian selection challenges for the season ahead, with several players on the sideline and Cameron Bancroft and Shaun Marsh having recently been selected for Australia’s Magellan Ashes campaign.

Langer said it was a balancing act the team had to manage every year and his confidence in his players remained unshaken.

“I’m not one for predictions, but we’ve shown over the years that we’re an incredibly successful team and there’s no reason that should change,” Langer said.

“We know the formula that works and, if we have the courage to stick to that formula, we’ll be ok.

“We’ve got a great squad again, so it all comes down to keeping them on the park and (managing the group around) the Australian selections.

“That’s why we’re so happy with the depth of our squad, because we’ve seen over the past few years – through injury or Australian selection – we tend to be able to cover it.”
