Rain Ruins Scorchers Result At Launceston

16 December 2020

The Perth Scorchers have split the points with the Melbourne Stars after rain stopped play before a result could be reached tonight, Wednesday 16 December, at the University of Tasmania Stadium in Launceston.

Sent into bat on a cold and wet Wednesday night in Launceston, the Scorchers turned up the heat early, as overseas imports Colin Munro (49) and Joe Clarke (34) took the game to the Stars’ bowling attack.

There was ample support from Ashton Turner who hammered 39 from 17 deliveries to continue the momentum for Perth.

The skipper took a liking to WA teammate Hilton Cartwright, he pummelled the medium-pacer for three massive sixes in the 12th over.

Rain stopped play after the 17th over and by the time it resumed the Stars were set an adjusted total of 76 to win from 6 overs.

Jhye Richardson had Perth in the box seat when he struck with the first ball of the second over, trapping Marcus Stoinis LBW to have the Stars 1-10.

However, the rain returned, and the match was abandoned before another ball could be bowled.

After the match, Colin Munro said;

“We were in a very good position, it’s unfortunate that the weather came.

“We batted really well tonight, we had a good chat about it after our last game and we rectified some areas where we’ve improved in.

“Any time you can get a score and contribute to a decent total for the team is very pleasing.”

The Scorchers will travel to Canberra tomorrow morning before taking on the Sydney Thunder at Manuka Oval on Tuesday 22 December.
