Unstoppable Mooney Makes Renegades Pay

03 November 2021

A Beth Mooney century has inspired the Perth Scorchers to a commanding 40-run win against the top-of-the-table Melbourne Renegades in their return to the WACA Ground today, Wednesday 3 November.

The Moments That Mattered

  • Mooney (101*) and Sophie Devine (72) started superbly to be 0-63 after six overs, the highest score in the powerplay for any team this seaso
  • The duo piled on the runs on their way to a mammoth 165-run stand, the third highest partnership in WBBL history
  • Player of the Match Mooney anchored Perth’s innings and regularly found the boundary before reaching triple figures in the last over of the innings to bring up her second WBBL century
  • The wicketkeeper-batter is now the competition’s leading run scorer for this season, with 272 runs to her name and a Golden Cap on her head
  • The Scorchers finished 2-194 through their 20 overs, the highest score in the club’s WBBL histor
  • The Renegades’ chase faltered early when off-spinner Lilly Mills took two wickets in the third over to put Perth in the box seat
  • Mills went on to claim career-best figures of 4-25 from her three overs, with the Renegades eventually finishing 6-154, 40-runs shy of the target

After the match, Beth Mooney said she was driven to perform in her first game as a Scorcher at the Furnace.

“I’ve loved my time in Perth, and to finally get out and play at the WACA Ground in orange is something I didn’t take lightly.

“I’m really proud to contribute for the Perth Scorchers and hopefully there’s more to come for me here.

“To come up and win against the Renegades, who have been the most consistent team this tournament, was really pleasing.

“We’ll take a lot of confidence moving forward to Saturday and Sunday.”

The Scorchers’ time in Perth continues this weekend, with back-to-back clashes against the Hobart Hurricanes, starting on Saturday 7 November at the WACA Ground.
