Scorchers Deny Stars In Final Ball Thriller

20 November 2021

The Perth Scorchers have won a nail-biter against the Melbourne Stars, scoring the winning runs on the final ball of the match to triumph by four wickets at Adelaide Oval.

The Moments That Mattered
- Player of the Match Heather Graham was best with the ball, taking 3-16 in her spell, including the big wicket of Elyse Villani in the final over of the innings.
- Marizanne Kapp bowled an economical spell, going for just 11 runs from her four overs, while Sophie Devine and Alana King took a wicket each to restrict the Stars to 7-122.
- After losing early wickets, Chloe Piparo (27) steadied the ship, and used her smarts to find the boundary.
- At 4-69, Mathilda Carmichael (30) and Kapp (29*) combined strongly for a quick-fire 43-run partnership towards the back end of the innings to get the Scorchers within touching distance of the total.
- The total was chased down on the final ball of the innings, sending the Scorchers back to the top of the Weber WBBL|07 table.

After the match, Heather Graham said:

“Batting second today was a really good experience for us, especially the middle order being able to get the job done considering how our top order has been so dominant in the past few games.

“The likes of Marizanne and Mathilda haven’t had as much of a hit as they’d probably like to, so for those two to come out today and get us into a winning position and across the line is really good.

“Hopefully we’ll be able to get finals back over in Perth. I think the WA crowd has missed a bit of cricket over the past little bit, so I think a finals series at home would be massive not only for us, but for our families and fans.

“We’ll come out here tomorrow and use that match as a good chance to put out a good performance before the finals series.”

The Scorchers will look to back up today’s performance in their last game before the finals, when they clash with Sydney Sixers tomorrow, Sunday 21 November, at the Adelaide Oval.
