Scorchers Triumph To Top Of The Table

17 November 2021

The Perth Scorchers have skyrocketed to the top of the Weber WBBL table following a 12-run win over the Adelaide Strikers at Karen Rolton Oval.

The Moments That Mattered
- Player of the Match Beth Mooney (78) in her 100th WBBL match and captain Sophie Devine (61) were at their prolific best, putting on a mammoth 137-run opening stand: their third triple figure partnership of the season.
- Devine’s innings saw her become just the third player to pass 3,000 WBBL runs.
- Heather Graham played a whirlwind innings at the end, scoring 22 off 11 including two big sixes to propel the Scorchers to 3-177 from their 20 overs.
- With the ball, Marizanne Kapp struck early, capturing the big wicket of opener Dané van Niekerk.
- Mathilda Carmichael took a brilliant outfield catch, diving to break the Strikers’ partnership, while handing Devine one of her two wickets.
- Graham was everywhere in the field, with two wickets and two catches, and bowled the 19th over which went for just four runs to put Perth in a strong position late.
- The Strikers finished on 165 from their 20 overs, with the 12-run win giving the Scorchers the Faith Thomas Trophy, and securing their spot in the WBBL|07 finals.

After the match, Beth Mooney said:

“It was pretty difficult there through the middle when the ball got a bit old, so we probably didn’t get as many runs through there as we would have liked.

“I think Heather Graham had a really incredible innings at the back end to get us to a defendable total.

“To play 100 matches straight is exciting. I’ve been fortunate enough to win a couple of titles in my time and hopefully I’ve got a few more in me for the Scorchers and win a couple more titles.

“I was pretty nervous to swap teams, but Perth wanted me on their team so to do the same thing for them that I did for Brisbane is something I’m really proud of.”

The Scorchers have a two day break, before back-to-back matches at the Adelaide Oval against the Melbourne Stars and the Sydney Sixers this weekend to close out the regular season.
