Scorchers Burn Up The Strikers

26 December 2018

The Perth Scorchers have given their fans the best Christmas present with a thrilling seven-wicket victory over the Adelaide Strikers in their first home game of the KFC Big Bash League at Optus Stadium.

Scorchers captain Ashton Turner won the toss and elected to bowl, with the decision paying dividends in front of a crowd of nearly 41,000.

The Scorchers’ five pacemen took full advantage of the lively wicket at Optus Stadium, Jhye Richardson the dominant star of the show finishing with 3 -7 from three overs.

An impressive catch by Nathan Coulter-Nile (1-33) and four wickets taken by Andrew Tye (2-9) and Jason Behrendorff (2-16) dismissed the Strikers for 88 in the 18th over – the visitor’s second lowest total in T20 cricket.

It is the fourth time the Scorchers have bowled a team out for less than 100, the most by any BBL team.

Chasing a comfortable target of 89, Perth slowly built a solid base thanks to a 57-run partnership between Will Bosisto and Ashton Turner.

Bosisto got the job done with a boundary on the final ball, steering the Scorchers home with an unbeaten 36 not out.

“It’s the first time I have hit the winning runs for the Scorchers and it was pretty awesome,” Bosisto said.

“The atmosphere of the crowd was amazing and everyone is in really good spirits.

“The really pleasing thing is how well we played our home conditions at Optus Stadium. We are obviously going to have half our games here and that is going to be a pretty intimidating sign for away teams coming here.”

Scorchers take to the road for their next clash against the Hobart Hurricanes on Saturday 30 December at UTAS Stadium in Launceston.
