Scorchers Crush Stars In Devine Victory

10 November 2021

The Perth Scorchers have continued their sizzling form with an emphatic 10-wicket victory over the Melbourne Stars today, Wednesday 10 November, at the Karen Rolton Oval.

The Moments That Mattered

  • Scorchers skipper Sophie Devine was awarded Player of the Match for her 2-11 from three overs and a solid unbeaten 35 with the bat.
  • Perth’s Power Play bowling was superb again, restricting the Stars to 3-20 after the first six overs.
  • It was another disciplined showing with the ball from the Scorchers, keeping the Stars to a meagre total of 97. All the bowlers chipped in, with Alana King, Sophie Devine and Heather Graham taking two wickets apiece.
  • Marizanne Kapp continued her red-hot form with the big wicket of in-form Australia Skipper Meg Lanning (1) in her first over, finishing with figures of 1-5 from her three overs.
  • Opening pair Beth Mooney (57*) and Sophie Devine chased down the small target with relative ease, producing a 95-run partnership to reach the total with 55 balls to spare.
  • Lilly Mills remains the leading wicket-taker of the competition with 16 scalps, with the wicket of Nicole Faltum adding to her already impressive tally.

After the game Beth Mooney said:

“Sophie and I wanted to be the ones who do the job and get the team over the line.

“It didn’t look like the same wicket that had been rolled out from yesterday, so I think the bowlers did a really good job of using the facilities.

“I think we have the right balance with our bowling line-up now and obviously Sophie has come back into that in the last couple of games, which really helps us too.

‘It’s such a long tournament and the situations within games are always changing so I think you just have to be prepared to adapt and be agile with what is happening in the conditions you are playing in.

“Nobody remembers how you start the tournament, but more how you finish it so hopefully in the next couple of games we can stay with the top of the pack.”

The Scorchers move up to second place on the Weber WBBL|07 table and will be looking to continue their fine form when they take on the Sydney Thunder at Karen Rolton Oval tomorrow, Thursday 11 November.
