Scorchers Shine Brighter Than Stars

09 January 2019

The Perth Scorchers have claimed a six-wicket victory over the Melbourne Stars with AJ Tye securing the first four-wicket haul of this KFC Big Bash season.

Tye was named Player-of-the-Match after ripping through the Stars’ middle order, returning 4-18 from his four overs to leave the hosts on 146.

Imports David Willey and Usman Qadir made some impressive manoeuvres early on, Qadir took his first wicket of the season before Willey claimed the big scalp of Ben Dunk (62).

Chasing a target of 147, Bancroft struck his biggest score since his Big Bash return, powering his way to 59 off 42 deliveries which included four fours and two sixes.

Ashton Turner doused any hopes of a Stars victory with his entertaining 43 not out from just 22 deliveries.

The Perth skipper reached the boundary twice and cleared it three times, steering the team to their second win of BBL|08.

Bancroft said there are a lot of positives the team can take out of tonight’s performance.

“It was good to go out and get the guys off to a really good start and more importantly for us, the team got a win and that is something we desperately needed,” Bancroft said.

“We all knew we had it in us and this win can kick start the momentum we wanted going into four home games.

“We’re looking forward to everyone in Perth coming down to the next few games to make the stadium an intimidating ground to play at for our competitors.”
The Scorchers head home to take on the Sydney Sixers at Optus Stadium this Sunday, January 13.
