Scorchers Stunned By Canes

30 December 2018

The Perth Scorchers have gone down by six wickets to an imposing Hobart Hurricanes outfit, in the fourth match of their KFC Big Bash League campaign.

The Hurricanes won the toss and elected to bowl, sending Scorchers openers Will Bosisto and Michael Klinger to the crease at UTAS Stadium.

Perth were immediately under pressure and lost four wickets in quick succession during an impressive powerplay by the Hurricanes, which restricted the visitors to 4-32.

Ashton Agar arrived in the middle in the fourth over and set about steadying the ship with 32 off 37 balls, but the side struggled to gain momentum and managed only 107 runs.

The Scorchers were looking for early wickets, but all efforts were quashed by a strong partnership between Hurricanes’ Matthew Wade and D’Arcy Short.

Agar’s four-over spell of 2-19 offered a reminder of his undoubted all-round talents, but
it wasn’t enough to impel the Scorchers to victory, the Hurricanes winning the match in the 17th over.

Agar said the side will regroup and rebuild ahead of their match against the Sydney Thunder.

“It not the ideal result we were after but there are 14 games this year and we have to get on a roll pretty soon,” Agar said.

“We are going to have to try and find the positives out of what has happened tonight and improve on our starts with the bat and the ball.

“I’m really confident with my link and my control and moving forward I hope I can play a big all-round role.

“We need everyone firing and I think that’s what we have been really good at over the past few years. We’ve put in team performances and we have really gelled together and that’s what we need to do.”

The Scorchers travel to Sydney to take on the Thunder on Wednesday (January 2) at Spotless Stadium.
