Scorchers Fall To Steaming Strikers In Alice Springs

13 January 2018

The Scorchers lost consistent wickets while batting and couldn't stop Suzie Bates in the chase, falling to a six-wicket loss at Traeger Park in the Rebel Women's Big Bash League.

The Adelaide Strikers won the toss and chose to bowl first against Perth Scorchers at Alice Springs.

The ladies in blue kept the Scorchers to 9-87 after 16 overs, in what was a rain delayed match, with 16 overs per side.

Wickets fell consistently for the Scorchers, with the first wicket of Elyse Villani (two off six balls) falling in the first over to Megan Schutt.

Heather Graham (19 off 17), Lauren Ebsary (16 off 22), Natalie Sciver (12 off 12) and Nicole Bolton (10 off 12) were the only batters to reach double figures for the visitors.

A composed knock from Strikers captain Suzie Bates (49 not out off 47) helped the home side chase down 88.

It took until the penultimate ball of the day for them to secure the win, with a couple of late wickets making the chase look shaky.

Katherine Brunt was the pick of the Scorchers bowlers (2-17), sending off Tammy Beaumont for a golden duck in the first over as well as capturing late-hitter Tahlia McGrath for 14 runs (18) in the 15th over.

Emma King was the only other wicket-taker for the players in orange, finishing with figures of 1-13 (2.5).

The Scorchers next game is against the same opponent at Traeger Park tomorrow, with the first ball at 3pm WST.
