The program is run every Wednesday afternoon until March 21 at Swan View Park from 5.00pm, kids get the chance to bat, bowl and field during a 90 minute cricket game.
Piparo said the program is a great opportunity for girls to play cricket while having fun at the same time.
“The girls will do some skills while they are here and then they finish off with a big T20 Blast game so the more girls we can get down here the better and the more fun it is for them all,” Piparo said.
“I think this is a really good pathway in general for girls to play cricket, you can see the girls on the TV with the women’s Big Bash so hopefully that encourages more girls want to get down at this junior level.
“I never had a chance to play with other girls when I was a kid so I would love for more girls to come down here.”
Midland Guildford Regional Cricket Manager Cameron Douglas said the program is about progressing their cricket skills in a girls only environment.
“We’ve found if just girls are playing they enjoy the game more, they are more likely to bring their friends down and they feel a little bit more comfortable,” Douglas said.
“They also meet other girls and form friendships, like all sport it’s not just about the game, it’s about making friends and having fun with your friends.
“They also learn other skills such as motor skills and hand eye coordination that will help them with their other sports.”
