Death bowling specialist Heather Graham was ice-cool as her side restricted the Strikers to nine runs from the final over, and secured the Scorchers their third win of the 2019 rebel Women’s Big Bash League.
The thrilling victory was set up by a commanding 141-run opening stand between Amy Jones (80) and skipper Meg Lanning (64).
Player-of-the-match Jones whacked two sixes in her 58-ball dig before Nat Sciver (17 off seven, including two sixes) fired late to give the Scorchers an imposing total of 3-173.
Nicole Bolton made the breakthrough with the ball for the visitors after the power play, removing Adelaide captain Suzie Bates for 45.
Bolton then combined with Taneale Peschel to send the dangerous Tahlia McGrath (3) back to the sheds, which slowed the home sides run-rate nearing the half way mark of their innings.
The Scorchers then held their nerve in the final stages of the match, after Bridget Patterson (60) got her side within striking distance of victory.
Adelaide’s Karen Rolton Oval will host the sixth placed Scorchers again tomorrow for their clash with ladder leaders Sydney Thunder.
