The Perth Scorchers will look to continue their winning ways in the Rebel Women’s Big Bash League when they head north this week, preparing to take on Brisbane Heat at Allan Border Field on Friday.

It comes after the side had a convincing nine wicket win over reigning WBBL champions the Sydney Sixers in Wollongong yesterday to record their second consecutive triumph to open the 2017-18 season.

The Scorchers’ attack has been crucial in the early stages of the campaign and, having won the toss, captain Elyse Villani backed her brigade in, sending the Sixers to the crease and capturing prized early wickets, including openers Alyssa Healy and Ellyse Perry, to have the hosts 3-47.

The Scorchers replied strongly during the second session with vice-captain Nicole Bolton making 42 off 46 balls and Villani recording the game’s top score of 74 not out, taking the Scorchers to their run target.

Elyse Villani recorded 74 not out with the bat.

Player Of The Match Villani said it was a crucial partnership that capitalised on conditions.

“I think we’ve got quite different games, which compliments each other most of the time,” Villani said.

“We spoke and we said partnerships will win this game and I thought we had a really good first partnership there.

“They were pretty tough weather conditions to be honest, with the wind, but I think the bowlers really set it up in the first innings for the batters.”

The Scorchers had an 18 run win over the Brisbane Heat in their opening WBBL match on Sunday and they’ll face them again at Allan Border Field on Friday at 12pm AWST, with streaming live on
