The Perth Scorchers have named an extended 14-player squad for their upcoming rebel Women’s Big Bash League matches against the Melbourne Stars and Brisbane Heat at Hurstville Oval on November 17 and 18 respectively.

England international Amy Jones has successfully recovered from a quad injury to be named in the squad for the first time since the Scorchers’ win over the Melbourne Renegades on Saturday 31.

Kiwi Lauren Down, who joined the squad as an international replacement player for Jones, has left the squad and returned home to New Zealand.

Mathilda Carmichael and the uncapped Georgia Wyllie have also been selected; Wyllie may become the fifth Scorchers debutant in WBBL|06.

Skipper Sophie Devine is unavailable for selection after suffering a lower back injury in Sunday’s win over the Sydney Thunder.

Beth Mooney, the competition’s leading run scorer with 322, will captain the side in Devine’s absence.

The Scorchers have won four consecutive matches to currently sit second on the WBBL|06 table.

Scorchers Head Coach Shelley Nitschke said;

“We were really pleased to win both games on the weekend, the challenge for us now is to keep the momentum going and secure a finals berth.”

“Lauren was a great addition to our squad both on and off the field, we have loved having her amongst our group and wish her a safe flight home to New Zealand.”

Scorchers Physio Brent Eales said;

“The full extent of Sophie’s injury and a timeframe on her return to play will be determined once further investigations have taken place.

“Amy Jones returns to the squad after completing a successful rehab phase following her quad injury.”
