The Perth Scorchers will return to #TheFurnace of the WACA Ground after the WA Government today announced that Optus Stadium would not be ready to host matches in the early part of the 2017-18 cricket season.
The Government’s announcement specifically referred to the Ashes Test, however, Cricket Australia and the WACA later confirmed the seventh instalment of the KFC Big Bash League season would have the Scorchers based at the WACA Ground.
However, Cricket Australia CEO Mr James Sutherland left the door open for a potential BBL|07 Final involving Perth to be played at Optus Stadium.
“Look, at this stage, with the way the timing works, it’s probably unlikely that any of the BBL/WBBL games will be played at the new stadium,” Mr Sutherland said.
“There is a slight chance that, if we get to finals time, that the finals will be played at the new stadium.
“We know that Perth likes to think the Final should be played in Perth every year, but let’s wait and see, but it certainly would be wonderful.
“We know how well Perth fans embrace the sport and the BBL over the past few seasons.”
