Perth Scorchers fast bowler Andrew Tye has continued his incredible form in the Big Bash League, cementing his status as a BBL great after passing 100-wicket mark this season in the BBL|11 competition.

The veteran’s 22 wickets from 15 matches earned him a place in the BBL|11 Team of the Tournament, alongside teammate and International T20 hero Mitch Marsh.

Currently topping the wicket-takers chart for the Club with 113, Tye believes his success comes down to his drive to continually improve and evolve his craft.

“I just really embrace my role and try to do the best job I can for the team, we’ve always had a really strong bowling attack and that has made my job so much easier.

“All I can do when I get my chance to bowl is try and deliver my best ball, while being able to stick to what works for me and what I do best and I think I have managed to do that consistently over my career, which has been pleasing.

“I love the pressure of bowling in the tough overs and I think I have been able to make my name in those type of scenarios. I take it with pride, and it means that you are highly regarded within your team and they have confidence in your ability, which is such an awesome thing to have.”

The Perth Scorchers are one of the most successful franchise in BBL history, and Tye believes the continuity of players within the squad and the close bond of the group has allowed them to remain competitive.

“I think we have always managed to keep a fairly strong list, there has been guys who have sacrificed to keep the playing squad together and giving us the best chance to contest for the title.

“The best thing about the group is that we play so much cricket together for WA that we just know each other’s game so well and that is such a massive advantage that not many other teams have.”

One of the key reasons behind the Scorchers dominance in BBL|11 has been the impressive form of Mitchell Marsh who posted an incredible 342 runs in his seven innings.

“Mitch has found some consistency in his routines, in both training and pre-game and he knows that if he sticks to that routine, then he gives himself the best chance to perform," Tye said.

“I think Mitch is just comfortable in his own skin and that has made such a difference to his game, as his teammate I just love seeing Mitch doing what he does best, which is scoring runs and winning games for the Scorchers.”

Another key factor behind the Scorchers success this season has been the depth of their entire playing squad.

Tye said the even contribution across the squad and the reliability of their playing group was a major reason why they’ve reached another BBL final.

“The best part of this group and one of the main reasons why we have been so successful this season is the fact we haven’t had to rely on one player winning us games, we have had multiple guys stand up and produce match-winning efforts.

“It’s been so crucial to have valuable contributions from every guy in the squad, being away from home it was always going to be about the whole squad doing their job when their time came.

“ At the end of the day, a team can win you a game but it takes a whole squad to win a tournament like this.”

The BBL 11 Final takes place on Friday evening when the Perth Scorchers clash with the Sydney Sixers at Marvel Stadium. At stake in the final is the mantle of being deemed the greatest club in BBL history, with the winner to claim a record fourth crown.
