The Perth Scorchers have added exciting all-rounder Cameron Valente to its squad as an injury replacement player for Jason Behrendorff.
Valente, 22, hails from South Australia where he has played two Sheffield Shield and six Matador BBQs One-Day Cup matches for the Redbacks.
The right-armer was the equal leading wicket-taker with 15 dismissals at 16.73 at the Matador BBQs One-Day Cup in October, while he also scored a century for South Australia at the WACA Ground against Victoria.
Valente trained with the Scorchers last week, featuring in two practice matches where he impressed coach Justin Langer.
“Cameron offers us great versatility, he’s a good all-round cricketer, can bat, bowl and is a good fieldsman too,” Langer said.
“He was in the Matador BBQs One-Day Cup team of the tournament and also scored a hundred at the WACA.
“He’s also a great young bloke so he fits nicely into our group to give us some depth.”
Valente has never played in the KFC Big Bash League and was thrilled by the chance.
“I’m very excited to join the Scorchers,” Valente said.
“I got a call a week and a half ago from my manager after interest from JL and trialled last week. A week later I’m here.
“I feel the shorter format suits my all-round game, with my slower balls and variations and hopefully whacking a few at the end.”
Behrendorff is unavailable due to a stress fracture in his left fibula which is expected to keep him out for a further two to four weeks.
