The Perth Scorchers have finalised their squad for the upcoming Rebel Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) season, with English Internationals Kate Cross and Amy Jones signing on.

Fast bowler Cross and wicketkeeper-batter Jones come into the squad after the England and Wales Cricket Board decided not to release former Scorchers Katherine Brunt and Natalie Sciver.

West Australian’s would be familiar with the pair, with Cross and Jones having played for the Western Fury in seasons gone by.

27-year-old Cross said she was excited to be back in Perth.

“I’ve always loved my time playing cricket in this beautiful city, and I’m very excited to be pulling on the orange shirt for WBBL|04,” Cross said.

“Lisa Keightley reached out to me and asked would I be interested in playing Big Bash this summer, it was an easy question to answer I said yes straight away.

“To be playing alongside the likes of Meg Lanning, Elyse Villani and Nicole Bolton is so exciting.

“I’m going to enjoy not bowling against Meg as an opposition bowler this time round, I’ve been on the receiving end of some of her big knocks before.”

Scorchers Head Coach Lisa Keightley said signing Jones and Cross will provide vital experience for her young local players.

“Crossy and Jonesy are both quality players and I know they will relish the opportunity to play in the Big Bash,” Keightley said.

“They’ve both been in the England set up, Amy is currently playing at the World T20 in the West Indies, and we saw how damaging she was for us with the gloves during the last Women’s National Cricket League campaign.”

Young Victorian fast bowler, Hayleigh Brennan, is the final signing for WBBL|04.

The 19-year-old quick hails from Victoria and has played for the Melbourne Stars in previous seasons.

“Hayleigh is a talented seamer who has the potential to be damaging with the new ball,” Keightley said.

“With Brunt and Sciver not being able to return, we knew we needed some cover in the bowling ranks, so I am excited to see if Hayleigh takes her opportunity with the Scorchers.”

The Scorchers season begins Saturday 1 December, against the Hobart Hurricanes at Melbourne’s CitiPower Centre.
