Scorchers Trio Named For ODI Series

Batter Mitch Marsh and pace duo Jhye Richardson and Andrew Tye were today named by Cricket Australia as part of the 14-player squad for the five-game series, beginning in Melbourne on 14 January.

The trio will depart for national duties on 10 January and will be in line to take part in the opening sporting event at Perth's new Optus Stadium, which will host the fifth ODI on 28 Janaury.

The squad named also means the Scorchers will welcome back Shaun Marsh, Cameron Bancroft and Ashton Agar, who are expected to become available for selection at the conclusion of the Fifth Magellan Ashes Test at the SCG, with Day 5 scheduled for 8 January.

Tye's selection comes as he sits atop the wicket-takers list for the current KFC Big Bash League season with 13 at an average of 8.38 and the variation specialist has played a crucial role in the Scorchers remaining undefeated across their opening four matches.

The ability of Richardson, who was named Player of the Match in last season's BBL Championship game, to operate in tandem with spearhead Mitchell Johnson has also been pivotal for the defending champions and has had him capture four wickets across the four matches.

Mitch Marsh holds his spot in the Australia line-up, having played a key role in the Magellan Ashes series, and will look to continue his brutal white ball form from Western Australia's successful JLT One Day Cup campaign last October.

The younger Marsh brother and State captain led the competition for averages with his thumping 169, built on four not-out innings and a high score of 124 from his seven matches.

Cricket Australia Chair of Selectors Trevor Hohns said: "The good thing is we have plenty of depth in the fast bowling department in this squad, with Jhye Richardson and Andrew Tye also included.

"Jhye featured in the Twenty20 International series against Sri Lanka last summer, is someone we have had our eyes on for a while and he is the complete package: he bowls with good pace, he has got good variations in short-form cricket, is a good fielder and is a handy batsman too.

"He was also the joint leading wicket-taker in the JLT One-Day Cup that Western Australia won at the start of the summer and so he fully deserves his spot.

"Andrew Tye is in outstanding limited-overs form as he is demonstrating in the KFC Big Bash League, is another player who did extremely well in the JLT One-Day Cup for Western Australia and merits his chance to try and cement a spot in the 50-over side after having played in the recent T20 International series in India."

Based on the aforementioned selection dates, Mitch Marsh, Tye and Richardson are expected to be unavaialble for selection after the home game against the Melbourne Renegades on Monday 8 January.

In turn, Shaun Marsh, Bancroft and Agar could be available to the Scorchers onwards from the 11 January match against the Sydney Thunder at Spotless Stadium.
