Paris Confirmed For ODI Debut

Steve Smith has confirmed Perth Scorchers youngster Joel Paris will make his Australia debut at #TheFurnace (aka the WACA Ground) on Tuesday.

Paris will debut on home turf in Australia’s opening match of the Victoria Bitter One Day International Series against India, marking a fairytale rise for the 23-year-old.

The Claremont-Nedlands left-armer only made his Sheffield Shield debut for the Alcohol.Think Again Western Warriors in late November.

Paris’ younger days were cruelled by a series of injuries, but he’s had a clean bill of health this season, allowing his rise.

"Traditionally we like to play a left-armer here who can use the breeze and move the ball so hopefully he'll be able to do that for us tomorrow," Smith said at his pre-match captain's press conference.

“He's been very impressive in the Matador Cup in the last couple of years and in the Big Bash this year. We look forward to seeing how he goes.

"It's a good opportunity for him and some other young quicks around the country so it's an exciting time for Joel to make his debut at the WACA."

Unfortunately there was no room in the XI for Perth Scorchers top-order batsman Shaun Marsh, with George Bailey preferred in the middle order.

It means the Marsh brothers miss the chance to play alongside each other for the first time at the WACA Ground for Australia.

"It's very difficult but Shaun's been exceptional," Smith said.

"He hasn't whinged once, he's taken it on the chin and he's been great around the group.

"He's been really impressive and hopefully every time he goes back he can continue to dominate, keep scoring big runs and to put his name up there."

Tickets are still available for the match via Ticketmaster on this link or on 1300 136 122.
