Dynamic allrounder Amy Edgar has recommitted her future to Perth, signing a new two-year deal that will keep her in orange until at least the end of the Weber WBBL|11 season.
Edgar Extends Scorchers Stay
The 26-year-old enjoyed a breakout campaign in WBBL|09, taking a team-high 20 wickets at 16.1 with the miserly economy of 6.75 to earn selection in the WBBL Team of the Tournament for the first time.
Edgar produced a match-winning performance during her team’s 36-run victory over Sydney Sixers at the WACA Ground last season, taking career-best figures of 4-19 from four overs.
Her versatility and control of pace and length have produced exceptional returns, with Edgar’s strike rate (14.1) and average (15.95) the best of any Scorcher to have taken more than 20 WBBL wickets.
She is now central to one of the WBBL’s most effective spin-bowling attacks alongside Alana King and Lilly Mills, despite taking up the craft just three seasons ago.
Formerly a specialist batter, Edgar also possesses exceptional ball-striking power and the ability to score quickly from the outset, as displayed in several match-winning innings from the middle-order for Perth and WA.
The best way to catch WBBL|10 action is with a Membership. Packages start from $16 and can be secured via wacricketmembership.com.au.
Reflecting on her contract extension, Edgar said:
“I’m very excited to be sticking around for the next two years. I have absolutely loved my time with the Club so far and I can’t imagine playing anywhere else.
“As a team we’ve been really settled over the past few years, and I think that gives us a great platform to build trust within the group, which will hopefully lead to plenty of wins for us this summer.
“To be able to perform consistently last season, particularly with the ball, was really pleasing and I hope I can build on that form heading into WBBL|10.
“We were disappointed with how we finished last year but the group is really motivated to get better both individually and as a collective, and hopefully bring home another WBBL title.”
The Scorchers have two local and two international list spots left to fill before their prime-time season opener against Melbourne Stars at the WACA Ground on Sunday 27 October.
