In Good Nick! Hobson Signs For BBL15

Title-winning batter Nick Hobson will be chasing more silverware this summer, signing with Perth Scorchers for KFC BBL|15.

Set for his seventh campaign in orange, Hobson has become one of Perth’s purest ball-strikers since transitioning from the top-order into a finishing role.

The 30-year-old, who didn’t miss a match last season, notched up 153 runs at 30.60 and scored faster than every Scorcher (150 strike rate) except star New Zealand opener Finn Allen (184.69).

He was especially damaging against Brisbane Heat at home on Boxing Day, blasting an unbeaten 47 from just 16 deliveries to earn Player of the Match honours.

This contribution, compiled on a surface that challenged most other batters, saw Perth post 6-165 having been 4-103 after 15.4 overs when Hobson entered the fray.

His defining innings for the Club, however, came alongside Cooper Connolly in the  BBL|12 Final at Optus Stadium, when Hobson struck consecutive boundaries to complete an astounding come-from-behind chase against the Heat.

Excellent in the field and diligent with all aspects of his preparation, Hobson is the latest in a string of local signing announcements following new deals for Bryce Jackson (BBL|15), Sam Fanning (BBL|15) and Katie Mack (WBBL|12).

The Club will also recruit two internationals in each of the WBBL and BBL Drafts tomorrow, with the event broadcast on 7Plus Sport, Foxtel, Kayo Sports (all 2PM WA time) and 7mate (3:30PM, WA time).

Reflecting on his new Perth Scorchers contract, Hobson said:

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to continue to represent the Perth Scorchers. Being part of this organisation is something I’m incredibly proud of, and they’ve played an enormous part in my cricketing journey to date.

“My focuses for the upcoming season are to work hard, play my role and push for another championship this summer. Playing in front of the Orange Army is another big driver. It’s the best atmosphere in the country and the privilege of playing in front of massive crowds every home game certainly isn’t lost on us.

“We’re a proud group and we love representing this franchise, so we’ll be doing everything we can to become BBL|15 champions.”

Perth Scorchers squad to date for KFC BBL|15: Ashton Agar, Finn Allen (NZ), Mahli Beardman, Cooper Connolly, Sam Fanning, Aaron Hardie, Nick Hobson, Josh Inglis, Bryce Jackson, Matthew Kelly, Mitch Marsh, Lance Morris, Joel Paris, Jhye Richardson, Ashton Turner.
