After falling agonisingly short of a finals campaign last season, there’s plenty of reasons for the Perth Scorchers to head into its Weber WBBL|11 campaign with renewed confidence.
WBBL Season Preview
A narrow defeat at the hands of Hobart in its final game last year saw the Scorchers finish one point short of qualifying for finals.
With adding depth to the side’s batting a major focus, the recruitment of Katie Mack from the Adelaide Strikers is sure to go a long way to addressing that.
The opening batter scored 196 runs from nine appearances with the Strikers last season and is set to play a key role at the top of the order with Beth Mooney.
Mooney heads into the new season off the back of another prolific campaign in 2024-25, where she scored 386 runs at 38.6.
The 31-year-old also enters this season’s tournament with a century against Pakistan at the recently completed ICC Women’s World Cup in India under her belt.
Fellow Australian World Cup squad member Alana King was also prolific through the campaign in India, highlighted by a stunning 7-18 against South Africa.
King finished WBBL|10 with 20 wickets and the BKT Golden Arm Award as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker.
Amy Edgar and Lilly Mills join King in the squad, in a sign that spin will play a big role for the Scorchers through the tournament.
New Zealand captain Sophie Devine is back to lead the side into its WBBL|11 campaign, alongside fellow international recruits Paige Scholfield and Freya Kemp.
Scholfield made her international T20 debut last year and, like Mack, will add plenty of excitement to the side’s batting.
Kemp was recently unveiled as the Scorchers third international signing, after Chloe Tryon out due to national commitments.
The England allrounder made her WT20I debut at the age of 17 years and 95 days and is quickly becoming one of the game’s most exciting prospects.
