Much loved Western Australian and Perth Scorchers swing bowler Joel Paris is set to light up Optus Stadium again next summer, extending his contract until the end of KFC BBL|16.
Paris Staying Orange For BBL|16
Paris’ signing is further good news for the Scorchers, who are preparing for their ninth BBL Final appearance against either Sydney Sixers or Hobart Hurricanes at Optus Stadium on Sunday.
The 33-year-old returned to the Scorchers for BBL|15, having played for Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars across the previous four seasons.
The smooth-moving left-armer wasted little time making his presence felt back in his hometown, taking 11 wickets at 16.72 from seven appearances.
Paris has regularly been called upon by captain Ashton Turner to bowl overs in the Power Play and Power Surge in BBL|15, highlighted by his Player of the Match performance against Adelaide Strikers at Optus Stadium earlier this month.
Paris’ signing leaves the Scorchers with a maximum of one spot in their squad to fill prior to the commencement of the BBL Player Movement Window on Wednesday 28 January.
Perth Scorchers General Manager – High Performance Cricket and Elite Teams, Kade Harvey said Paris had shown his class on return to Perth in BBL|15
“We were thrilled to welcome Joel back to Perth for BBL|15 and we couldn’t be happier Joel has decided to stay with us for another season.
“Joel has led our attack brilliantly this season and delivered under pressure on several occasions.
“He’s also been able to impart his knowledge of the game on some of the younger bowlers in the squad.”
Paris said he looked forward to wearing orange again next season.
“I’m excited to stay in Perth for at least another season. I’ve really enjoyed being back with the Scorchers this season and being a part of a side that has made the BBL|15 Final.
“We have such an exciting group of bowlers with different skill sets that complement each other.
“It’s a huge honour to be able to don the orange and run out in front of my family, friends and the most parochial group of supporters in the BBL at Optus Stadium.
“As we’ve seen this season, our fans and members create an unbelievable atmosphere every time we play at home and I can’t wait to do it again next season.”
