Perth Scorchers allrounder Ashton Agar has described playing in India as a beautiful experience, as the side prepares to head to Chennai for the KFC BBL|16 season opener later this year.
Scorchers set to embrace Chennai experience
In a landmark moment for the Big Bash League and for Australian cricket, the Scorchers will open the KFC BBL|16 season at the iconic M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, taking on Melbourne Renegades before one of global cricket’s most passionate audiences.
It will be the first Big Bash League contest played outside Australia and could attract the largest viewership of any game in the history of Australian domestic league sport.
Agar said the side couldn’t wait for the historic occasion.
“Everyone wants to be a part of it,” Agar told reporters on Friday.
“I love playing in India.
“It’s not just about cricket.
“It’s about the experience and introducing yourself to the world.”
The match in Chennai, to take place on Saturday 12 December, will also mark the start of the Club’s title defence, following a six-wicket win over Sydney Sixers in the BBL|15 decider at Optus Stadium.
Agar said he expected Perth to be well suited and well supported playing in Chennai.
“Any Indian fan that knows cricket knows who the Perth Scorchers are, particularly as the most successful side in the Big Bash,” he said.
“We play a really exciting brand of cricket.
“Like we’ve seen in the IPL; a lot of sixes and massive scores.
“That’s what we will be trying to bring.”
In an added bonus Scorchers Members and fans will still enjoy a full suite of five regular season home games at Optus Stadium across the summer, on top of four regular season WBBL matches at the WACA Ground.
The full BBL|16 fixture will be announced next week.
