Excitement for Perth Scorchers’ Weber WBBL|12 and KFC BBL|16 seasons is continuing to build, following the announcement the eight competing Clubs can add to their squads from tomorrow morning when the contracting embargo lifts.
Big Bash Leagues Contracting Embargo Lifts
The Scorchers will be able to add domestic and international players to their squads to their squads from 9am AEST tomorrow, with the WBBL|12 season just two months away.
In a big change to the way Clubs build their lists, the overseas player draft has been replaced by the direct signing model that was in place until 2022.
Clubs can sign up to three overseas players, while there is no minimum number of overseas players required.
Teams can sign one WBBL player and one BBL player to a multi-year deal.
Squad sizes will remain at 15 for the WBBL and 18 for the BBL, leaving the Scorchers with eight and nine list spots to fill, respectively.
The new rules for BBL|16 will see the six highest-paid players at each Club account for at least $1.7m of the $3.18m salary cap. In WBBL|12, the five highest-paid players must be paid at least $439,000 of the $772,466 cap.
In BBL|17 and WBBL|13 the four highest-paid players at each club be collectively paid at least $1.4m and $400,000 respectively.
Perth Scorchers’ Big Bash summer starts with a WBBL blockbuster against Melbourne Renegades at the WACA Ground on 31 October.
