Perth Scorchers have locked in one of Australian cricket’s brightest young prospects for KFC|BBL 16, signing allrounder Will Malajczuk on a two-year deal.
Malajczuk to join Scorchers
Malajczuk announced himself on the international stage in January, scoring the fastest century in an ICC Men’s U19 World Cup match against Japan.
His stunning emergence continued one month later when he made his debut for WA in the One-Day Cup a month later, contributing to his side’s enthralling win over Tasmania.
Malajczuk’s innings on that occasion will be remembered for his stunning pull shot into the newly renovated WACA Ground pool deck.
He showed his talent wasn’t just limited to batting in his second ODC appearance for WA, taking two wickets in comfortable win over Victoria at the WACA Ground.
Malajczuk adds further depth to the Scorchers’ spin bowling stocks, joining Ashton Agar, Cooper Connolly, Ashton Turner and international signing Calvin Harrison.
The 19-year-old was rewarded with his first State contract for season 2026-27, as he looks to solidify his place in WA’s team.
Prior to making his ODC debut, Malajczuk helped his state to a memorable win in the 2024-25 Cricket Australia Under 19 National Male Championships.
He went on to captain the side in last season’s tournament, which was held in Perth.
Perth Scorchers General Manager Kade Harvey said it was exciting to secure a young player of Malajczuk’s calibre.
“Will has made a profound impact in his short time around the WA men’s team to date,” he said.
“Will is an exciting talent that we are confident can contribute to the side with both bat and ball.
“He adds another spin option from a bowling perspective, while he has also shown he’s able to bat in a range of positions in the top and middle order depending on the match situation.”
Malajczuk said he was thrilled to be given the opportunity to don the orange this summer.
“It’s a dream come true to be given the chance to represent the Scorchers,” Malajczuk said.
“I remember watching the likes of Ashton Turner, Mitch Marsh and Ashton Agar at the WACA Ground growing up and it’s a huge honour to now have the chance to play alongside them.
