Perth Scorchers have secured their final overseas player signing for KFC BBL|16, turning to dynamic England international Aneurin Donald for their title defence.
Donald's Day: English blaster signs on
It strengthens the English presence in the Scorchers’ BBL|16 squad, having already signed spinner Calvin Harrison and opening batter Zak Crawley.
It also continues a whirlwind year for Donald, who made his T20 International debut for England against Sri Lanka last month.
Donald was an integral part of Trent Rockets’ run to the final of The Hundred earlier this year, as was the case with the Scorchers’ first overseas signing Calvin Harrison.
Donald’s powerhouse hitting was on display in the final, top scoring for his side with 38 off just 19 deliveries.
His form during The Hundred saw him rewarded with selection in England’s team for each of the three T20 Internationals against Sri Lanka last month.
The 29-year-old gave Scorchers’ Members and fans a taste of what they can expect this summer in his dynamic cameos of 12, 21 and 13 in the three matches.
Donald’s signing also gives the Scorchers a second wicketkeeping option in the squad, having signed Joel Curtis last month.
Perth Scorchers General Manager Kade Harvey said he expected Donald's aggressive style of play would suit the side in their attempt to defend last year's title.
“We are incredibly excited to have Aneurin join our BBL squad this season.
“He showed enormous potential during his time with Trent Rockets during The Hundred and then again for England in the subsequent T20 series against Sri Lanka.
“I’m sure our Members and fans will enjoy watching Aneurin’s aggressive style of batting on full display at The Furnace this season.”
