Fresh from being unveiled as Perth Scorchers’ final overseas signing for KFC BBL|16, Aneurin Donald has declared he couldn’t have picked a better place to start his journey in franchise cricket.
Donald excited by Scorchers opportunity
Donald joined fellow England international Zak Crawley and Trent Rockets teammate Calvin Harrison in signing on for the defending champions for the upcoming season.
It continued the build-up to what promises to be a historic season for the Scorchers, who open BBL|16 against Melbourne Renegades at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday 12 December.
The 29-year-old, known for his powerful ball striking at the top of the order, said the opportunity to play a match in India was one of many key reasons for joining the Scorchers.
“That’s an experience I’m looking forward to,” Donald told England greats Jos Buttler and Stuart Broad on the For The Love Of Cricket podcast.
“To be able to play a game in India, it’s world famous how they support cricket.
“Hopefully the BBL will get the support every other form of cricket gets out there.”
Following the clash with the Renegades in Chennai, the Scorchers return home for three consecutive matches on Sunday 20 December, Saturday 26 December and Wednesday 30 December at Optus Stadium.
Donald said the chance to play home games at The Furnace added to the appeal of signing for the Scorchers.
“I’ll settle in at Optus Stadium in Perth, which I’ve heard amazing things about,” he said.
“It’s going to be some experience.
“They have a pretty good record across the last few years and have been such a good franchise.
“To have my first crack at international franchise cricket in a competition like the BBL is awesome.”
