Talking Points From WBBL Game Six

Perth Scorchers posted a critical one-run win over Adelaide Strikers in a pulsating clash at the WACA Ground.

Below are several talking points from the Club’s second home game of its Weber WBBL|11 campaign, which resulted in a heart stopping one-run win.

Darke Makes Most Of Recall
Top-order batter Maddy Darke made the most of her recall to Scorchers line-up, belting 34 off 22 balls. Batting at number three, Darke made her way to the middle in the first over when Katie Mack was dismissed. The dynamic right-hander’s counterattack kept the scoreboard ticking through the powerplay.

Simply Devine
Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry and now Sophie Devine. Three of the most famous names in the game all share something very special in common; they all have 4,000 WBBL runs to their name. Devine reached the milestone during Scorchers total of 4-159, of which she top scored with 49. The star all-rounder was a calming influence during Scorchers innings and gave her side a good score to defend.

Edgar Delivers Under Pressure
It was a night where several Scorchers contributed to the one-run victory, however it was off-spinner Amy Edgar who wrestled momentum back her side’s way at a critical stage. With Adelaide taking the power surge needing 40 runs from 30 balls and six wickets in hand, Edgar came up trumps. Edgar picked up two wickets, plus a run out, while conceding just a solitary leg bye to wrestle momentum back Scorchers way.

Scorchers Into The Top Four
At various stages through the night it looked as if Scorchers season was on a knife’s edge and a spot in the finals was slipping away. Such is the tight nature of the competition, the win sees Scorchers move to fourth place and its season alive. With away games against first-placed Hobart and second-placed Melbourne Renegades in the next week, Scorchers have an opportunity to consolidate its place in the top four.

Fans Head To The WACA
Scorchers second home game of the season was billed as the Ashes Afterparty and it well and truly lived up to expectation. Fans who attended day two of the NRMA Insurance West Test at Perth Stadium were treated to a scintillating century from Travis Head, before flocking to the WACA Ground to watch Scorchers must-win clash with Adelaide.
