Talking Points From Crucial Triumph Over 'Gades

Perth Scorchers notched back-to-back wins for the first time this season, defeating Melbourne Renegades by four wickets at the CitiPower Centre this afternoon.

Below are several talking points from the Scorchers’ seventh game of Weber WBBL|11 campaign, which boosted the Club’s hopes of a finals berth.

Devine move opens door to a fast start
Scorchers Captain Sophie Devine was promoted to open the batting in her side’s pursuit of 151 and it paid off handsomely. Devine belted six fours and two sixes in her 46 off 24 balls, sharing a 57-run partnership with Beth Mooney (41 from 31) which set Scorchers on the path to victory. Earlier, Devine took two key wickets to restrict the hosts to 150.

Kemp steadies the ship
When Alice Capsey took three wickets in the 14th over of Scorchers’ innings, it looked as if the run chase was on the verge of coming unstuck. The English import’s unbeaten 18 off 14 balls saw her side safely to victory and suggested she’s set to play a big role in the final three games of the regular season.

Ainsworth sets the tone
Fresh from taking three wickets in last Saturday’s win over Adelaide, Chloe Ainsworth was at her destructive best again at CitiPower Centre. Ainsworth had to wait until the third over of her spell to take her two wickets, but she got Scorchers off to a strong start in the very first over of the match, conceding just one run.

Spin trio stifles Renegades’ top order
Lilly Mills, Amy Edgar and Alana King provided headaches for the home side. Edgar struck with the second ball of her spell to remove Courtney Webb, before Mills and King removed Alice Capsey and Deandra Dottin respectively soon after. Mills finished with 1-19 off her three overs, following her final over heroics last Saturday, while King and Edgar finished with 1-33 and 2-34 respectively.

Back In The Four
The win over the defending champions sees the Scorchers back into fourth spot and firmly in the mix for a WBBL|11 finals berth. A trip to Hobart to face the ladder-leading Hurricanes awaits the side on Saturday, before returning to the WACA Ground for a clash with the Renegades on Tuesday. The side finishes its campaign against Brisbane Heat at the WACA Ground on Saturday 6 December.
