Dynamic batter Katie Mack will switch blue for orange in Weber WBBL|11, moving from Adelaide Strikers to Perth Scorchers on a two-year deal.
Mack-nificent! Prolific Batter Joins Scorchers
Mack has been a picture of consistency since taking part in the competition’s inaugural season, playing 140 games during stints with Adelaide Strikers (87 games) and Melbourne Stars (63).
Brisbane Heat allrounder Jess Jonassen (147 games), new Scorchers teammate Beth Mooney (142), and former Strikers ally Amanda-Jade Wellington (142) are the only players with more WBBL experience.
A creative and versatile right-hander, the 31-year-old is ninth on the WBBL all-time run-scoring list with 2664 runs at 25.37, playing numerous roles in the batting order.
Mack was also an integral player during Adelaide Strikers who titles in WBBL|08 and WBBL|09.
Mack is renowned for having speed between the wickets, athleticism in the field and cricketing smarts, allowing her to impact all phases of the game.
The Scorchers will secure more exciting talent during the WBBL Draft on Thursday 19 June where they hold picks four, 12, 21 and 28.
Reflecting on joining Perth Scorchers, Mack said:
“I’m really excited to be joining the Perth Scorchers for the upcoming WBBL season. To join such a high calibre club and help take them back to the top is something I’m really looking forward to.
“It’s exciting to know I’m going to have the orange army of fans behind me as I walk out onto the WACA Ground, rather than against me, for the next couple of seasons.
“I’m really looking forward to linking up with my new teammates, coaches and support staff soon and getting to work.”
Quotes attributable to Perth Scorchers General Manager – High Performance Cricket and Elite Teams, Kade Harvey:
“We saw an opportunity to strengthen our batting, and Katie fits the bill perfectly.
“She has proven herself to be among the more consistent batters in the WBBL, and we believe the WACA Ground will suit her playing style.
“Katie is also a quality person and leader who has a decade’s worth of WBBL experience to lean on, which should benefit the rest of the squad.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming Katie to Perth this season, and I’m sure the Scorchers’ Members and fans will enjoy watching her at the newly redeveloped WACA Ground.”
