WWBL: What To Know About Our WBBL Draftees

Perth Scorchers have loaded up on talented allrounders in the WBBL Draft, securing hard-hitting Englishwoman Paige Scholfield (England) and dynamic South African Chloe Tryon this afternoon.

Having placed bids on Heather Knight (Sydney Thunder) and Deandra Dottin (Melbourne Renegades), Perth read out the name of pre-signing and superstar skipper Sophie Devine (New Zealand) at pick eight.

Scholfield became Perth’s first live selection in the Gold round (pick 12), off the back of impressive performances with Oval Invincibles in the Women’s Hundred where she registered the strike rate of 134.67.

The South African-born, England-raised batting allrounder belted 138 for England A against Australia A earlier this year, and has played ODI and T20 cricket for her country.

Scholfield, who lands in Perth for her first WBBL campaign with the Scorchers, is expected to be available across the entire season plus finals.

Scorchers also acquired the exciting skillset of South African Chloe Tryon, a player the team swooped on when she was still on the table at pick 21 (silver round).

Tryon has previously represented Hobart Hurricanes, Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers, as well as South Africa on 223 occasions (110 T20Is, 103 ODIs and two Tests).

The classy 31-year-old offers power hitting in the lower order, bowls tidy left-arm orthodox spin, and is exception in the field.

Devine, Scholfield and Tryon are all expected to be available for Perth Scorchers’ whole Weber WBBL|11 campaign.

With the Draft complete, Perth has five local spots to fill.

Perth Scorchers WBBL|11 squad: Chloe Ainsworth, Sophie Devine (NZ), Amy Edgar, Mikayla Hinkley, Ebony Hoskin, Alana King, Katie Mack, Beth Mooney, Paige Scholfield (UK), Chloe Tyron (SA).
